Job Summary:The Campus Bookstore is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Sales Associate to assist with operational support during peak periods, special events, pop-up shops, and staff vacation coverage. This is a casual, hourly position offering up to 24-hours per week on an as-needed basis. The successful candidate will provide a variety of administrative and logistical support functions, with a particular focus on customer service, online order fulfillment, and receiving & logistical support.

Responsibilities/accountabilities:

  • Create a welcoming environment for customers encouraging foot traffic in the store, or at pop up locations
  • Assist customers with purchases, identify correct textbooks and course materials, make product recommendations, and address general inquiries in a friendly and professional manner
  • Operate the cash register, process transactions accurately, and handle returns or exchanges in accordance with store policies
  • Stock shelves, merchandise displays, and ensure the store is clean, organized, and well-maintained
  • Keep storage areas tidy and organized
  • Physically relocate stock to/from storage area and store or pop-up location safely
  • Receive and inspect inventory shipments; report any shortages, damages, or discrepancies
  • Help monitor inventory levels and assist in tracking sales activity.
    Support promotional efforts, seasonal sales, and campus events, including pop-up shops
  • Assist with merchandise handling, setup, and teardown at pop-up shops or satellite locations
  • Assist in the picking, packaging and shipping of online orders.
    Maintain up-to-date knowledge of store policies, current promotions, and product offerings
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the store manager.
    Provide general clerical support, including data entry, filing, scanning, and responding to routine inquiries
  • Collaborate with the Ancillary Services team on ad hoc projects and assignments as directed

Qualifications:

  • Previous retail or customer service experience is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Comfortable handling cash and using point-of-sale systems (training provided).
  • Ability to lift boxes up to 10 kilgrams and perform light physical tasks (e.g., standing, restocking, climbing a step ladder).
  • Flexible availability, including peak periods such as office hours, evenings, weekends and labour-day weekend.

Work Conditions:

  • This is an on-call, as-needed role with variable hours (up to 24 per week)
  • Work may include early mornings, evenings, or weekends depending on campus store needs and event schedules
  • Some physical activity (e.g., lifting, standing for extended periods) may be required
  • This is an in-person role that requires the incumbent to be physically on-campus for 100% of their scheduled working hours

Preferred Experience:

  • 1 year experience is preferred in a retail setting
