Job summary

The Salvation Army in Gibsons, BC is seeking a part-time Thrift Store Associate to provide friendly customer service, process transactions, and manage donation sorting and displays. You will help keep the sales floor neat, rotate stock, and assist with loading and unloading donations in a busy retail environment.

Candidates should be able to lift up to 25 pounds, follow safety guidelines, and work with volunteers.

Qualifications

• Public school completion is required.
• Experience with warehouse receiving/processing/distribution is an asset.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform physical duties is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide positive and courteous service to customers at the sales counter.

As a faith- and values-based organization, we hire and serve people of all backgrounds and walks of life - there is a place for everyone to belong here.Mission StatementThe Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.Job Description:POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:The role provides service to customers, sorting incoming product and assists in the ongoing retail operations of The Salvation Army Thrift Store.Thrift Stores Functions/Responsibilities:Provide positive and courteous service to customersProcess customer transactions at the sales counter including cash and debit/credit sales ensuring accuracy and in accordance with policies and proceduresAccurate opening and closing of store procedures when required, including POS terminals and tillAssist in keeping the general sales floor neat & clean and assure product displays are kept full and are tidyKeep stock rotated as per schedule or as directed by supervisorImplements store layout plans to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays; Arrange and display sales itemsWork with volunteers as assignedEnsure work stations for volunteers are clear and ready before they arriveReceives, sorts, stores and prices donations as per directions and standardsProcess donated items by unloading, sorting, packing, storing, bailing and reloading the donationsLifts and relocates bags and boxes to determined areas as required. Assists with heavy lifting as requiredClimbs ladders and stores seasonal product in overhead storage binsSeparates recycling and garbage, and processes both according to the direction given, including into truck for removalMeets assigned daily targets; counts, weighs and record incoming and outgoing donationsMaintains general cleanliness along with the safety and functionality of warehouse and property in accordance with all safety policies and guidelinesShares janitorial duties in common spaces such as washroom and kitchenPerforms other duties as assignedWORKING CONDITIONS:Work environment is typically in an office, thrift store or sorting room.May require standing long hoursMust be able to lift 30 lbsEducation/Certifications:The incumbent will have completed Public School.Experience:The incumbent must have the following experience before hire:Up to three months of prior related experience including experiences with warehouse receiving/processing/distribution of goods, and customer serviceKnowledge of lifting guidelines are an assetRequired Skills/Knowledge:Physical Effort/Dexterity RequiredThe performance of the job requires frequently standing for long periods of time, twisting, bending, crouching, reaching overhead, pulling and pushing, kneeling & lifting up to 25 poundsConcentration RequiredThe performance of the job requires frequent safety awareness and sorting of donationsAttention to detail, problem solving and analytical skillsStrong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibilitySuccessful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:• Background check consent• A clear vulnerable sector screening• A clean drivers abstract• Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety trainingCompensation:The target hiring range for this position is $18.25 to $21.04 with a maximum of $23.82.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.The Salvation Army will provide reasonable accommodation upon request.
