The Salvation Army Huntsville Thrift Store is seeking a part-time Clerk to support daily retail operations at our Huntsville location. You will greet customers and donors, process transactions, and help with sorting and merchandising while upholding our mission and values.
This 21-hour per week role requires attention to detail, strong communication, and the ability to work with volunteers. Flexibility in scheduling and physical stamina for lifting up to 40 pounds is expected.

The Thrift Store Clerk provides service to customers, sorts incoming product and assists in the ongoing retail operations of The Salvation Army Huntsville Thrift Store.
Internal relationships: Corps Officer, supervisor, volunteers, staff External relationships: Community
This position reports directly to the Thrift Store Supervisor or designate.
Responsible for accurate completion of customer transactions including handling cash and debit sales. Contribute to store budgets by maintaining customer service standards. Assist with the materials management of donations/product flow in the thrift store.
This is a permanent part time position based on 21 hours per week Hours of work and work schedule will be set as per Thrift Store operational requirements Monday to Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break where applicable. Flexibility in scheduling is required. Ability to stand for long periods with frequent twisting, bending, crouching, and reaching is required. Ability to lift/move up to 40 pounds on a regular basis. The above responsibilities must be performed in keeping with The Salvation Army’s Mission, Vision and Values, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.
Completion of Secondary School. Provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Policy Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment. May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry. Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience in warehouse processing or goods distribution and knowledge of lifting guidelines. Some related experience in warehouse processing or goods distribution would be a definite asset. Knowledge of lifting guidelines would be a definite asset. Cash handling experience is required. Brand awareness would be a definite asset. Basic math skills required to calculate discounts and percentages as well as reading skills. Knowledge and experience using a cash register, debit machine and/or credit card processing is a definite asset. Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills. Self-motivated/disciplined. Lead by example, by demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change. Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement. Demonstrated ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment. Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability. Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills.
The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $19.85 with a maximum of $23.82. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
