Safety & Training Lead - Transportation Operations

Job summary

Prairie Bus Lines seeks a Safety and Training Leader to support Red Deer and surrounding area locations. You will develop and implement proactive local safety programs, lead toolbox talks, investigate hazards, and support COR and safety audits to elevate safety culture across drivers, mechanics, and staff.

You will collaborate with operations leaders, respond to safety incidents, and maintain accurate safety records to ensure compliance with safety requirements.

Qualifications

• Three years in health and safety or transportation safety roles.
• Experience in school bus operations (preferred) or other experience in transportation.
• Hands-on experience with incident investigations, hazard assessments, workplace inspections, safety committee leadership, etc.
• Experience with COR program and transportation/national safety code audits and compliance.
• A class 5 driver’s license with a clean abstract; class 2QS an asset.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Occupational health and safety certificate/diploma is desired; safety designation assets (CRSP, CRST, etc.).
• Experience with workers’ compensation claims management and return-to-work planning.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement proactive local safety programs and procedures to improve safety performance.
• Be present in operations to build relationships with frontline employees and lead toolbox talks.
• Conduct investigations of hazards, near misses and incidents.
• Manage collision files with adjustors and insurers.
• Respond on-scene to significant collisions and safety incidents.
• Develop and present material at employee safety meetings.
• Lead preparation for COR and transportation safety audits.
• Support safety committee meetings and inspections.
