Responsibilities

  • Support environmental compliance programs (waste, chemical, spill management, sustainability).
  • Maintain site emergency response plans and business continuity plans.
  • Collaborate with HR and Operations on workers’ compensation and accommodations.
  • Integrate health, safety, and environmental requirements into projects and changes.
  • Track and report HSE metrics (injuries, near misses, inspections, actions).
  • Support regional HSE initiatives, customer assessments, and audits.
  • Administer contractor management and LOTO programs.
  • Conduct safety inspections and enforce DOT and OSHA regulations.
  • Develop and deliver safety training sessions for management and workers.
  • Maintain internal safety programs and liaise with government inspections.
  • Lead BBS program with on-site observations of warehouse workers and drivers.
  • Coordinate with HSE teams and maintain MSDS programs.

Job Description
  • Support environmental compliance programs, including waste management, chemical management, spill prevention, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Maintain site emergency response plans and support facility emergency preparedness and business continuity planning.
  • Partner with Human Resources and Operations to support workers' compensation claims management and accommodation processes.
  • Collaborate with Operations leadership to integrate health, safety, and environmental requirements into projects, startup initiatives, and process changes.
  • Track, analyze, and report key HSE metrics, including injuries, near misses, inspections, corrective actions, training compliance, and audit performance.
  • Support regional HSE initiatives, strategic projects, customer assessments, and compliance audits.
  • Support administration of contractor management and lockout/tagout (LOTO) programs.
  • Promotes occupational health and safety awareness throughout assigned facility, including housekeeping. Conducts ongoing safety inspections of facilities, operations, and equipment to ensure compliance and safe working environment for associates. Monitors and enforces safety regulations, including Department of Transportation (DOT) and OSHA.
  • Coordinates, develops and /or conducts safety training sessions for management, supervisors and workers on health and safety practices and legislation, including new hire safety orientation.
  • Implements, maintains, and updates internal safety programs and procedures in conjunction with company, customer, and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Acts as site liaison related to government inspections concerning safety, environmental, or ergonomic issues. Facilitates incident investigations, root cause analysis, and closure of corrective actions.
  • Analyzes routine job tasks for hazards and identifies safer ways of working. Assists Human Resources with return of employees after accidents or injuries.
  • Leads Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) program on-site through regularly scheduled observations of warehouse workers and drivers.
  • Liaises with Functional HSE team to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures. Administers and maintains MSDS programs. Ensures compliance with Hours of Service regulations and OSHA regulations around recording and reporting occupational injuries & illness.
  • Administers, measures, and supports safety performance.
  • Actively participates on assigned teams and/or projects, including site Health & Safety Committee and process improvement initiatives.
  • Required Education and Experience
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST), NCSO, or equivalent safety designation considered an asset.
  • Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) Certification preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification preferred.
  • Experience managing incident investigations, corrective actions, return-to-work programs, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of provincial and federal occupational health and safety legislation and workers’ compensation requirements.
  • Working knowledge of risk assessment, root cause analysis, ergonomics, contractor safety, machine safeguarding, and emergency preparedness.
  • Excellent communication, training, coaching, and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and safety management systems.
  • Ability to influence and build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently in a dynamic operational environment.
  • High school diploma, required
  • Formal safety certification, preferred
  • 1-3 years of safety experience (i.e. - administration of site based safety programs), required
  • 5-7 years warehouse/distribution/logistics experience, required
  • or equivalent with work related experience in inventory control, logistics or related discipline, required
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, safety, industrial hygiene or related field, preferred
