Job description

Peter Lucas Project Management is seeking a Safety Specialist to join our dynamic team. As a leading project management company, we offer a diverse range of projects, professional challenges, and incredible learning opportunities to support your targeted professional growth.

The Safety Specialist schedule is working two weeks in, two weeks out, 11 hour days. The duties and responsibilities for this role are:

The Safety Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all construction activities comply with site-specific Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) standards. The role involves monitoring daily operations to identify hazardous conditions and ensuring the implementation of safe work practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the Construction Management Team (CMT) and contractors
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and environmental procedures and work instructions
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections with the CMT, emphasizing behavioral safety observations
  • Review Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs) and daily contact cards for accuracy and quality
  • Provide or monitor SHEQ-related training for CMT personnel and contractors; assess contractor qualifications
  • Participate in job hazard assessments, safety meetings, toolbox talks, constructability reviews, and project kick-off meetings as needed
  • Perform daily and weekly job site inspections in line with established procedures
  • Identify and address health and safety issues specific to the worksite
  • Lead investigations of injuries, accidents, and near-miss events according to corrective action processes
  • Ensure timely reporting of significant safety-related events
  • Monitor the quality of incident investigations and verify that corrective actions are effective and implemented promptly

Requirements

  • Must have CSO designation.
  • Valid First Aid is considered an asset.
  • Must have formal investigation training and experience leading investigations.
