JOB SUMMARYThe
Safety Specialist is responsible for monitoring and supporting safety programs, policies, and procedures. This position ensures compliance with CAL-OSHA and other applicable safety regulations by conducting inspections, analyzing workplace risks, and promoting a safety-first culture. The Safety Specialist supports hazard prevention, risk mitigation, and employee training while contributing to the continuous improvement of workplace health and safety.
This position is subject to ITAR requirements which require incumbents to be a U.S. Person (Citizen, lawful permanent resident, a protected individual per 8 U.S.C. 1324(a)(3))PRIMARY DUTIESInclude the following but other duties may be assigned. *
- Leads and drives the safety committee and all activities associated with it.
- Leads, schedules and conduct all safety meetings.
- Monitors potential health and safety conditions of the workplace; identifies problems, recommends solutions, and ensures that the on-going safety system is corrected to incorporate the changes, in concurrence with management.
- Responsible for maintaining all records for safety programs (i.e. training logs, reports, inspections, written programs). Development and implementation of written health and safety programs (e.g., hazard communication, lockout tagout, confined space, fall protection, PPE, electrical safety, hot work, machine guarding, etc.).
- Responsible for investigations of near-misses, accidents, and injury/illness root-cause by working with site leadership.
- Support management in the implementation of safety plans
- Respond to on call emergency (injuries, accidents, alarm system)
- Responsible for maintaining and completing all mandatory federal, state and city required reports concerning safety
- Carry out examinations of machinery, working environments and structures, taking measurements of noise, heat, and vibrations, and samples where necessary
- Audit the workplace organization and associate behaviors to ensure that training, auditing and methods are accurate and consistent.
- Perform Job walks regularly to ensure safe work practices and environments.
- Files all injuries with Workers Compensation carrier and works with them to provide any information needed.
- Provides site leadership with safety monthly, annual safety metrics as requested.
- Responsible for all safety training (i.e. new hire safety training, forklift, aerial lift, crane/ rigging etc.) and responsible to maintaining an up to date, accurate training matrix.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Participates in any extra curriculum activity deemed necessary by management.
- Assist other department and/or areas as requested by management or supervisor.
- Follows all company policies and safety guidelines.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis position oversees personnel working as auditors
SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE- 3-5 years of experience within the Environment Health and Safety field in a manufacturing industry setting.
- Proven knowledge and understanding of environmental, health & safety regulations, principles and practices with regulatory training as necessary
- Knowledge CAL-OSHA, DOT, NFPA standards
- Knowledge of safe operation procedures; Confined space, Crane/ Riggin, HAZCOM, LOTO, safety welding practices, PPE use, etc
- The following certifications or education are highly desired: OSHA Certification (30/ 40 hrs.), HAZWOPER, FORKLIFT trainer, CPR/ First Aid Trainer.
- Bilingual (English/ Spanish) is not required but is a plus
- Computer proficiency in MS Office including, but not limited to Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Proficient in creating and maintaining spreadsheets as well as charts.
EDUCATIONBachelor’s Degree preferred but a combination of work experience and education will be considered.

- Ability to stand for extended periods of time, at times the bulk of the shift
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to operate a forklift (includes ability to climb onto and off of the equipment)
- Ability to use/ operate crane system that move/ rotate/ flip parts to train other employees
- Ability to use/ wear safety protective PPE (i.e. safety shoes, safety goggles, hearing protection)
WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing their job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will spend approximately 60% (excluding breaks and meal periods) of time in a manufacturing environment and approximately 40% of time in an office environment. When working in the facility it requires the use of personal protective equipment including (but not limited to) safety slip/ oil resistant shoes and safety glasses. Shop floor environment includes exposure to working machinery, noise (under 80db), fumes, mist, oil, grease, dirt and hazardous chemicals.
ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: $70,000 - $85,000 Allied Mechanical is an equal opportunity employer.
