We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a well-established and growing construction company with over 30 years of experience. Based in Dieppe, NB, they specialize in multi-residential and commercial projects, serving clients across Atlantic Canada. Position Overview

Our client is currently seeking a Safety Coordinator to join their team in Dieppe, NB. Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s Health and Safety Program. The ideal candidate will bring practical experience in construction safety, a proactive approach to risk management, and a collaborative mindset to promote a culture of safety across all projects.

The ideal candidate brings a balanced leadership approach — firm on safety standards, yet approachable and solution-oriented. They understand the value of leading with respect and collaboration first, while maintaining the authority to hold teams accountable when needed.

Responsibilities :

Program Development & Policy Oversight :

  • Develop, organize, and maintain the company’s Health and Safety Program.
  • Review, update, and improve health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Chair and support the company’s Joint Occupational Health and Safety (JOHS) Committee.
  • Recommend external training for staff as needed.

Employee Education & Communication :

  • Advise and guide employees on safe work practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct safety orientations for all new employees.
  • Prepare and lead seminars on updates or changes to health and safety legislation.

Site Safety Monitoring & Risk Management :

  • Perform regular risk assessments and implement preventative measures.
  • Collaboratively conduct bi-weekly safety inspections for each project site.
  • Ensure compliance of safety standards among employees, subcontractors, and suppliers.

Reporting & Compliance :

  • Prepare and submit reports on incidents and violations; determine root causes.
  • Lead and participate in internal and external safety audits.
  • Ensure subcontractors provide appropriate liability insurance and WCB documentation.
  • Liaise effectively with Workplace Health and Safety officers.
  • Maintain safety records, including inspection schedules and equipment inventory.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the role.

Requirements :

  • 2+ years of experience in a dedicated health and safety role.
  • 5+ years of experience in the construction or similar industry.
  • Strong understanding of current Safe Work Practices and legislation.
  • Ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders in a confident and solution-focused way.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and inspections.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to lead by example on-site.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
