Job description

The Safety Coordinator II (Afternoon Shift) will coordinate and implement the health and safety management system for the organization while assisting in the development and implementation of programs, procedures, work instructions, and forms in support of the Safety Management System.

The Coordinator is responsible for supporting the yard Safety Manager, providing advice and training on safety protocols, and conducting audits and inspections to ensure compliance. The Coordinator will work closely with the yard Safety Manager, Human Resources, the Ability Management team, and Labour Relations in handling worker injuries and work accommodations.

Note : Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

The following schedule is available :

Afternoon : 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm (Monday to Friday)

What you'll do
  • Review, revise, and implement site-specific programs, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Ensure all activities comply with site HSE requirements and legislation.
  • Investigate accidents and near-misses and liaise with key stakeholders and management to identify causes and prevent recurrence through corrective actions.
  • Provide advice and training on safety protocols; conduct inspections and audits to ensure compliance with organizational and government standards.
  • Conduct new employee and sub-contractor orientation sessions.
  • Conduct site safety tours for visitors (customers, potential customers, contractors, government agencies).
  • Maintain and analyze records of workplace injuries, illnesses, and absences; identify areas of concern and provide information required by regulatory agencies.
  • Monitor conditions affecting employee or contractor health, safety, and environmental performance.
  • Verify completion of safety recommendations and requirements on site.
  • Demonstrate understanding of and verify compliance with safety standards, work practices, work permit requirements, and safety systems.
  • Assist in safety messaging for toolbox talks.
  • Support internal and external notifications (e.g., regulatory, incidents).
  • Participate in the site emergency response team; attend to emergencies, direct workforce away from danger, assist emergency personnel, and liaise with local emergency response agencies.
  • Aid injured workers in recovery through stay-at-work principles and suitable work accommodations.
  • Assist injured workers with return-to-work accommodations, including a Graduated Return to Work (GRTW) program.
  • Liaise with Abilities Management and Supervision regarding scheduling and assignment of work accommodations following physical limitations.
  • Support ergonomic risk assessments, hazard identification, and proposing solutions to limit risks.
  • Assist with investigating Musculo-Skeletal Injuries (MSIs) and developing prevention strategies.
  • Work in confined space environments.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture with a focus on employee engagement in the Safety Management System.
  • Perform additional safety duties as assigned.
What you'll bring
  • Bachelor's Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in Health & Safety, or equivalent experience/education.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in developing, implementing, and auditing health & safety management systems and fieldwork.
  • Experience in hazard and risk assessments, including working at heights and confined space entry.
  • Certifications such as CRSP, CSP, ROH, CIH are preferred.
  • Occupational First Aid Level 2 certification.
  • Knowledge of regional health and safety legislation.
  • Practical experience in a heavy industrial setting.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001:2018 is an asset.
  • Experience with EHS Management Information Systems (e.g., Intelex).
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Computer literacy with basic Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong leadership and relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Controlled Goods Clearance and NATO security clearance.

The estimated salary range is $84,600 - $103,400, with final offers based on skills, experience, location, and internal equity. The company's final decision on salary and total compensation will be at its sole discretion.
