Job description

This evolution allows us to offer customers a full suite of asset-based transportation including over-the-road, cross-border, intermodal LTL and TL, drayage and transload, warehousing, distribution, logistics services, and final mile.

Purpose of Position:

The Safety & Compliance Supervisor is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the Safety & Compliance Division, including leading and developing the team. The Supervisor ensures continuous improvement in safety & compliance functions to increase operational efficiencies and guarantees that the company meets regulatory requirements as per MTO/DOT and insurance regulations.

Key Accountabilities:

  1. Provides recommended changes to safety procedures to ensure company compliance with applicable legislation.
  2. Conducts workplace inspections, records results, and takes necessary actions to ensure compliance.
  3. Investigates and documents workplace injuries.
  4. Oversees the company’s drug and alcohol program for drivers.
  5. Monitors overall driver safety performance.
  6. Reviews and ensures CVOR accuracy, follows up on unreported incidents, and prepares the fleet for MTO/DOT inspections and audits.
  7. Ensures timely completion of compliance tasks such as IFTA reporting, plate renewals, emissions tests, and other certificates.
  8. Reviews E-log data on hours of service, assists drivers as needed, inspects, and rectifies discrepancies to ensure compliance with MTO/DOT regulations.
  9. Conducts periodic inspections of third-party carriers to verify fleet and driver compliance with MTO/DOT standards.
  10. Onboards new drivers on ASL policies, procedures, and Dangerous Goods training.
  11. Attends all Health and Safety Committee meetings on behalf of the Fleet Department.

Other Duties:

  1. Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  1. Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field.
  2. Minimum five (5) years of progressive safety and compliance experience; supervisory experience is an asset.
  3. Certified Director of Safety (CDS) or Certified Safety Supervisor (CSS) is an asset.
  4. Experience in the transportation industry is required.
  5. Knowledge of Canadian Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, FMCSA, MTO, and Canada Labour Code Part II.
  6. Understanding of current Workplace Health and Safety issues.
  7. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
