Purpose of Position:
The Safety & Compliance Supervisor is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the Safety & Compliance Division, including leading and developing the team. The Supervisor ensures continuous improvement in safety & compliance functions to increase operational efficiencies and guarantees that the company meets regulatory requirements as per MTO/DOT and insurance regulations.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provides recommended changes to safety procedures to ensure company compliance with applicable legislation.
- Conducts workplace inspections, records results, and takes necessary actions to ensure compliance.
- Investigates and documents workplace injuries.
- Oversees the company’s drug and alcohol program for drivers.
- Monitors overall driver safety performance.
- Reviews and ensures CVOR accuracy, follows up on unreported incidents, and prepares the fleet for MTO/DOT inspections and audits.
- Ensures timely completion of compliance tasks such as IFTA reporting, plate renewals, emissions tests, and other certificates.
- Reviews E-log data on hours of service, assists drivers as needed, inspects, and rectifies discrepancies to ensure compliance with MTO/DOT regulations.
- Conducts periodic inspections of third-party carriers to verify fleet and driver compliance with MTO/DOT standards.
- Onboards new drivers on ASL policies, procedures, and Dangerous Goods training.
- Attends all Health and Safety Committee meetings on behalf of the Fleet Department.
Other Duties:
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field.
- Minimum five (5) years of progressive safety and compliance experience; supervisory experience is an asset.
- Certified Director of Safety (CDS) or Certified Safety Supervisor (CSS) is an asset.
- Experience in the transportation industry is required.
- Knowledge of Canadian Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, FMCSA, MTO, and Canada Labour Code Part II.
- Understanding of current Workplace Health and Safety issues.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
