Our Occupational Health and Safety department is seeking an experienced Safety and Healthy Work Environment Specialist to help prevent injuries and promote health and well-being among our employees. This role supports programs such as musculoskeletal injury reduction, WHMIS/GHS, and other healthcare hazard prevention strategies. The specialist will also support health and well-being initiatives focused on health education and promotion to enhance our workforce's overall health. The position involves administering safety programs that promote the safety and well-being of patients, staff, and volunteers, ensuring legislative compliance.

Employment Status: Temporary Full Time
Duration (if Temp): up to December 31, 2026.
Reporting Relationship: Director, Occupational Health and Safety
Location: Wilson Site (primary)
Hours of Work: 37.5/week
Employee Group: Non-union

Position Responsibilities
  • Monitor the effectiveness of hospital policies and processes related to OHS programs and prepare reports.
  • Collect and analyze quality and outcome indicators.
  • Design, develop, implement, and sustain safety and healthy work environment programs.
  • Communicate and promote program availability to employees.
  • Develop safety education and training programs for employees and volunteers.
  • Foster a safe and supportive workplace culture.
  • Assist in developing action plans to address safety opportunities.
  • Prepare statistical reports for stakeholders.
  • Develop metrics to assess program impacts.
  • Collaborate with the Occupational Health and Safety team.
  • Maintain confidentiality and training records.
  • Ensure compliance with WHMIS/GHS regulations, including conducting training and audits.
  • Support the development of compliance reports based on safety scorecards.
Safety
  • Support and improve occupational health and safety programs.
  • Support safety committees and initiatives.
  • Investigate safety issues and incidents.
  • Coordinate environmental safety assessments.
  • Develop safety standards and research best practices.
  • Coordinate programs promoting employee health and well-being.

Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Healthcare, Nursing, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in safety and health programs.
  • Membership in a regulated health professional association.
  • CRSP membership preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with data-driven decision-making.
  • Experience in a multi-site healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Excellent facilitation and coaching skills.
  • Self-motivated and committed to high-quality safety programs.
