Position OverviewThe Safety & Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of transportation and facility safety, driver compliance, and regulatory adherence. This role includes developing safety policies, organizing and/or conducting driver training and road tests, managing audits, and ensuring compliance with all applicable provincial and federal regulations. The S & C Manager will work closely with Fleet Management, Operations, Executive team, and Warehouse Managers to Implement and oversee proactive safety programs.
Key Responsibilities•Manage, implement, and enforce safety and compliance programs for both transportation and warehousing operations
•Conduct and/or organize driver road tests and administer onboarding safety training and the required orientation for all new hires to include the transportation of DG training and certification.
•Monitor driver qualifications, hours of service, pre-trip inspections, and CVOR performance
•Hold semi-annual or as needed driver meetings.
•Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and provincial regulations (e.g., MTO, DOT, NSC, CTPAT) and ensure ongoing compliance
•Lead internal and external “Rish Assessment” audits and respond to corrective action requests
•Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; develop corrective action plans and safety bulletins
•Track and report safety performance metrics; present data to executive management
•Coordinate warehouse safety initiatives, including WHMIS, forklift training, and PPE compliance
•Ensure all training, inspection, and maintenance records are accurately maintained and accessible
•Work with dispatch and HR to manage disciplinary actions related to safety violations
Qualifications•5+ years of experience in a transportation safety or compliance role, preferably in a fleet or 3PL environment
•Strong knowledge of transportation regulations (e.g., CVOR, DOT, NSC, MTO, ELD mandates)
•Experience conducting driver training, evaluations, and road tests
•Familiarity with warehousing safety programs and certifications (e.g., WHMIS, forklift training)
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•Proficient in MS Office and fleet compliance software (e.g., Trimble, Geotab, etc.)
•Proven ability to develop policies, lead audits, and deliver impactful training sessions
•Valid Class AZ or DZ license preferred
