The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Advisor to join our team at Kearl Oilsands on a 14/14 rotation, with potential to move to a 14/7 rotation. The successful candidate will promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.

This position involves working 12-hour shifts during the rotation, with charter flights provided from Calgary or Edmonton. Flight allowances are available based on residence.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

Reporting to the Regional Safety Lead, responsibilities include:

  • Performing site hazard assessments and developing mitigation plans.
  • Updating hazard assessments as needed.
  • Reviewing field level hazard assessments (FLHAs) and ensuring proper involvement.
  • Leading the development of Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) with supervision, employees, and subcontractors.
  • Reviewing or distributing review of job procedures and safe work practices.
  • Conducting safety meetings as per the safety management plan (SMP).
  • Communicating the SMP to all site personnel, including visitors and subcontractors.
  • Updating and re-communicating the SMP as necessary.
  • Tracking and reporting safety statistics.
  • Completing incident investigations, documenting findings, and conducting root cause analysis.
  • Assisting with post-incident and suspicion drug testing.
  • Ensuring work complies with permits, policies, procedures, client requirements, and regulations.
  • Performing scheduled safety inspections.
  • Sharing learnings from near misses, hazard IDs, and inspections daily.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of field safety experience
  • Ability to work in remote camp environments and adapt to changing conditions
  • Certified National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO)
  • Knowledge of oil sands safety standards is a strong asset
  • Valid safety certifications (First Aid, OSSA CSTS, WHMIS, H2S Alive)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Docs
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug and background checks
