Perma-Pipe in Camrose, AB is hiring a Safety Advisor!

We’re looking for a Safety Advisor to be a part of our growing Canadian (AB & ON) business. The Safety Advisor is responsible for providing frontline HSE support at the Camrose manufacturing facility. Working closely with the HSE Manager, this role supports daily operations, ensures compliance with Alberta OH&S legislation, and provides on-the-floor coaching to production, maintenance, yard, and office teams. The Safety Advisor plays a key role in hazard prevention, monitoring workplace conditions, and advancing Perma-Pipe’s zero-injury objectives.

The role is situated in Camrose, AB and is not a remote or hybrid position.

Essential Job Functions
Safety Leadership & Floor Presence
  • Maintain a strong, visible presence across production, yard, and materials‑handling areas.
  • Observe daily activities to ensure safe operation of forklifts, loaders, overhead cranes, hoisting/rigging, hot work, confined space entry, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Intervene during unsafe acts or conditions and exercise stop‑work authority when required.
  • Provide ongoing coaching to reinforce safe behaviors and standardized work practices.
Hazard Assessment & Risk Management
  • Conduct hazard assessments, job safety analyses (JSAs), and task‑specific evaluations for shop, maintenance, and yard operations.
  • Monitor indoor air quality, temperature conditions, welding fumes, particulate, and general air movement to ensure acceptable working environments.
  • Assist with elements of the respiratory protection program, including fit testing as applicable.
Training & Orientation
  • Deliver new‑hire safety orientations covering WHMIS, PPE expectations, material‑handling requirements, and facility‑specific hazards.
  • Facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and supplemental training sessions for shop‑floor practices and hazard controls.
  • Provide coaching and feedback during toolbox meetings and shift huddles.
Incident Response & Investigation
  • Provide immediate response to injuries, property damage, equipment contacts, air‑quality concerns, and near‑miss events.
  • Assist with incident reporting, root‑cause analysis, corrective action development, and communication of lessons learned.
  • Maintain documentation for corrective actions, safety inspections, and training records.
Compliance, Inspections & Documentation
  • Conduct scheduled inspections of production areas, mobile equipment, emergency stations, eyewash stations, first aid kits, housekeeping standards, and general site conditions.
  • Track and verify completion of corrective actions.
  • Support Alberta WCB documentation, modified work programs, and return‑to‑work coordination.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records for safety meetings, respirator fit testing, inspections, and incident files.
Operational Support & Engagement
  • Build strong working relationships with supervisors, lead hands, operators, and maintenance personnel.
  • Promote increased hazard reporting and a proactive safety culture.
  • Monitor workplace organization, 5S practices, storage methods, and safe traffic patterns for forklifts and trucks.
Job Requirements
Education
  • Post‑secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline.
  • Safety designation or progression toward CRST, CHSC, or NCSO considered an asset.
Experience
  • 2‑5 years of experience in a safety role within manufacturing, industrial services, pipe fabrication/coating, construction, or energy‑sector environments.
  • Experience conducting hazard assessments, inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (Visual, PIMS, or equivalent) is an asset.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Comfortable working in active industrial environments with noise, heat, moving equipment, and varying air‑quality conditions.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and influencing skills.
  • Experience with 5S or workplace organization systems is an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital reporting tools.
  • Strong attention to detail, follow‑through, and collaborative working style.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Ability to prioritize hazards, tasks, and action items promptly and effectively.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods in both office and production environments.
  • Requires use of PPE such as safety glasses, hearing protection, steel‑toed footwear, and other task‑specific gear.
  • Occasional lifting, bending, reaching, and handling of materials up to 50 lbs.
Mental Demands
  • Ability to manage diverse daily challenges and make effective decisions under pressure.
  • Must be capable of handling conflict, resolving issues, and interacting professionally with personnel at all levels.
Working Conditions
  • Regular movement between office areas, shop floors, yard environments, and uneven outdoor surfaces.
  • Exposure to industrial noise, heat, dust, and equipment activity.
