We Invite Applications For The Position Of

  • We invite applications for the position of Payroll Practitioner / Accounts Clerk - 12 months, 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The current rate of pay is $31.13 per hour plus 16.3% in lieu of benefits.

Qualifications

Grade 12 education supplemented by a certificate or diploma in office/business administration; completion of an introductory payroll course. Completion of the Canadian Payroll Association Payroll Compliance Practitioner Program (PCP) is preferred; typing speed of 40 wpm; proficient in Microsoft Office Programs; three years of current payroll experience in a large integrated payroll and benefits environment; demonstrated knowledge of statutory and legislative regulations; demonstrated knowledge and understanding of collective agreements; demonstrated knowledge and understanding of payroll processing; ability to exercise a high level of professionalism and discretion with confidential information; ability to organize and prioritize duties with strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy; ability to handle high volumes of work with constantly changing deadlines and constant interruptions; experience in the use of relevant office equipment.; meets the physical requirements of the position; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties are performed under the supervision of the Payroll Manager or designate; administers varying full cycle payroll processes, including adjustments to arrive at the appropriate pay;ensures compliance with current statutory and contract payroll/accounting requirements and Board policies and procedures; maintains required accounting records covering bank reconciliation, receipting, issuing of cheques, purchase orders, school trust funds and other accounts, and invoices, according to procedures established by the district; maintains current knowledge of relevant union contracts, pension agreements, certification procedures and employee benefits; ensures completion of all reports, deductions/remittances, etc. in a timely, orderly and efficient manner; maintains and updates employee payroll information, adjusts employee attendance records and maintains employee leave banks; processes documentation for administration of benefits, leaves, disability/WSBC claims, as required; assists in the preparation and reconciliation of year end tasks, such as T4 and annual pension reporting; responds to payroll/accounts enquiries in a timely manner; prepares and delivers bank deposits as required; assists other staff as time permits; follows proper work procedures, observes all regulations pertinent to the work, maintains a good working relationship with other employees, and cooperates in maintaining a healthy learning and working environment; provides coffee break and lunch-time relief coverage for Receptionist, as needed; performs other related duties as assigned by the Manager.
