Qualifications

• Hold a Diploma of College Studies in Special Care Counselling, or a diploma or attestation of studies recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.
• First aid certificate of at least 8 hours.
• Refresher course of at least 6 hours updating the skills from the previous course.
• Fluent in French and English (written and spoken)

Responsibilities

• Participates in the development and drafting of the intervention plan.
• Develops and leads educational, cultural, recreational and sports activities to develop social, cognitive, psychomotor, communication and other skills.
• Supports students in their learning and autonomy development.
• Observes situations and intervenes with students, supports teachers to maintain a learning-friendly environment.
• Uses communication techniques adapted to students' needs.
• Records observations and interventions, writes reports on student situations.
• Collaborates with youth protection agencies and other external stakeholders as needed.
• Meets with students, parents and staff to provide information and references.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Description of tasks

• Under the responsibility of the school principal and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, participates in the development and drafting of the intervention plan;
• Develops, organizes and leads educational, pedagogical, cultural, recreational and sports activities aimed at developing social, cognitive, psychomotor, communication and other skills;
• Supports students in their learning and autonomy development;
• Observes the situation and intervenes with students in response to their environment; supports the teacher in ensuring a classroom environment conducive to learning;
• Uses communication techniques adapted to students' needs;
• Records observations and interventions, keeps records and writes reports on student situations;
• Collaborates, as needed, with youth protection agencies and other external stakeholders;
• Meets with students, parents and teaching staff to advise, inform and provide relevant documentation and references;
• Performs any other related duties as required.

Other Requirements

• Hold a certificate dated no more than three (3) years attesting to the successful completion of:
• a standard first aid course of a minimum eight (8)-hour duration;
• a refresher course of a minimum six(6)-hour duration updating the skills acquired in the course mentioned in subparagraph 1.
• Fluent in French and English (written and spoken)
