Nature of the work

The principal and customary work of an employee in this class of employment consists in being responsible for carrying out maintenance work as well as the preventive and physical upkeep of an educational institution or building, covering an area of less than 9,275 m2. The role also involves organizing, carrying out, coordinating, and overseeing such work with or by other employees. Additionally, the employee performs functions characteristic of Maintenance Workman, Class II.

Description of tasks
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the premises.
  • Organize and carry out maintenance work by performing Maintenance Workman Class II duties.
  • Ensure that maintenance apparatus and equipment are kept in good condition.
  • Ensure the building and its equipment are in good condition, including inspecting lighting, heating, and ventilation systems, ensuring operation of heating equipment, and carrying out or overseeing preventative maintenance.
  • Perform minor or temporary repairs and report breakdowns for necessary repairs.
  • Follow up on the work of other workers.
  • Repair doors, windows, furniture, and assemble or install materials.
  • Ensure adequate security against fire and theft, and monitor visitors, students, and staff if required.
  • Prepare rooms and halls as needed.
  • Order, purchase, and keep inventory of materials, products, and equipment, ensuring safety standards are met.
  • Make suggestions regarding products, materials, and work methods.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and oversee the work of other nonspecialized employees if required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
