Job summary

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society in Ontario is seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to support shelter medicine, assist veterinarians, and ensure high-quality care for animals. The role involves surgery prep, anesthesia monitoring, post-surgical care, and compassionate handling in a fast-paced, structured environment.

Requirements include RVT registration, 2–3 years of surgical experience, experience in high-volume clinics, weekday availability, and a valid G driver’s license.

Qualifications

• RVT registration is required.
• 2–3 years of surgical experience preferred.
• Experience in high-volume clinics is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Welcome clients and their pets.
• Assist veterinarian with animals before, during, and after surgery and with wellness procedures.
• Prepare surgical equipment and monitor anesthesia; post-surgery cleanup.
• Handle and care for animals using low-stress techniques.
• Administer medications and vaccines under veterinarian direction.
• Monitor post-surgical recovery and provide care during stay.
• Perform general housekeeping and sterilization of equipment.
