RT/UT Welder Fitter

Hourly rate: $39.93 – Fully Qualified (starts at Learner 1: $33.94/hr; Learner 2: $35.93/hr; Learner 3: $37.93). Progression is based on merit, not hours.

We have opportunities for RT/UT Welder Fitters to join our production team at our facility in CAMBRIDGE, ON. Each team member plays a critical role in BWXT Canada’s success and in meeting our customers’ quality, cost, and delivery expectations. Our RT/UT Welder Fitters are considered industry leaders, demonstrating high-level technical skills daily.

Primary Functions:

1. Perform all types of manual welding in all positions on company products to meet quality standards and perform fitting operations.

Responsibilities:

• Read and interpret route sheets, drawings, Shop Instruction Sheets (SIS), Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS), weld and rod cards.
• Plan and organize the RT/UT welding process.
• Identify and verify workpiece material.
• Communicate effectively with team members and the shop foreman.
• Perform basic fitting to pre-established layouts.
• Work safely, demonstrating good workmanship and practices.

Qualifications:

• Proven commitment to workplace safety.

• Understanding and adherence to quality requirements and productivity expectations.
• At least 5 years of manual welding experience in heavy manufacturing.
• Ability to perform manual welding and repairs to RT UT quality standards across multiple processes.
• Intermediate blueprint reading skills.
• Comfort working in confined spaces, at heights, and in awkward positions.
• Ability to pass fit-testing for respirator use if required.
• Testing includes:
• Welding in the 6G position on 2 ¾” OD carbon steel pipe with 0.625” wall thickness.
• GTAW root pass in 6G position (visual inspection).
• SMAW fill and cap in 6G position (visual and RT inspection).
• Availability to work various shifts:
• Days: 6:00 am to 4:00 pm (Monday–Thursday).
• Afternoons: 4:00 pm to 2:00 am (Monday–Thursday).
• Weekend days: 6:00 am to 5:00 pm (Friday–Sunday; paid for 40 hours).
