Supporting the modernization of the Social Assistance reporting platform (Legacy Cognos system), the Senior Business Analyst will work alongside the agile product team to review existing data model and redesign to be scalable and flexible to meet current program and Ministry needs for analytical and operational reporting.
Responsibilities include:
- Backlog Management: Collaborate with the Product Owner to prioritize and refine the product backlog, ensuring user stories are well-defined and ready for development.
- Sprint Planning: Participate in sprint planning to define scope and objectives aligned with business goals.
- Requirement Elicitation: Gather and clarify requirements with stakeholders and the development team, using user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Continuous Improvement: Engage in retrospectives to identify improvement areas and implement enhancements.
- User Story Development: Write and refine user stories for clarity and actionability.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Facilitate communication to ensure solutions meet business needs.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain documentation and provide project progress reports.
- Data Profiling and Analysis: Profile and analyze data to refine logic and design using Databricks.
Technical Knowledge and Expertise - 35%
- Experience managing business transformation and solution design, focusing on business architecture and data migration.
- Knowledge of enterprise architecture concepts, especially in Azure data warehouses, marts, lakes.
- Proficiency with Azure Databricks, SQL, PySpark.
- Experience in designing enterprise data warehouses, data management, requirements gathering, data profiling, and documentation.
- Understanding of data warehouse modeling and design principles.
- Knowledge of large hardware/software operations, database management, and IT trends like cloud computing.
- Ability to provide source-to-target mapping consultations.
- Familiarity with SDLC, ITIL, relational databases, SQL, and emerging technologies.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (AODA, WCAG).
- Optional: Experience with front-end web technologies and COTS tools like IBM CURAM.
Business Analysis and Problem-Solving Skills - 25%
- Experience in requirements elicitation, documentation, data analysis, and recommending solutions.
- Ability to develop clear epics and user stories, particularly in Azure DevOps.
- Translate needs into design models and concepts, develop technical documentation, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
Organizational and Project Management Skills - 20%
- Plan and control projects, resolve technical problems, develop documentation, and facilitate knowledge transfer.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills - 20%
- Gather information, clarify needs, prepare documentation, and explain system options to clients.
