Position Purpose

Contribute to the safe and timely movement and transportation of clinical and industrial waste. Work as part of the transportation team to provide excellent customer service while fully adhering to all legal compliance issues regarding the Working Time Directive (EU hours) in conjunction with Transportation Regulations. Provide support for the Service Managers and Service Coordinators on a day-to-day basis; shift patterns any 5 from 7 including legal holidays when required.

Schedule : The schedule is subject to change during the first 3 months; once the probation is completed, a schedule will be set. Availability to work evenings and weekends, occasionally required.

Available for overnight travel.

Hourly wage : CAD 31.65

Key Job Activities
  1. Manage assigned routes, ensuring customers’ waste is picked up in a timely and accurate manner.
  2. Pick up and transport waste safely according to all federal, state, and local rules and regulations.
  3. Plan daily schedule based on customers’ needs by reviewing daily paperwork, e.g., manifest, route sheets, previous VCR, etc., provided by the Transportation Manager / Supervisor or Dispatcher.
  4. May prepare and load trucks to service select accounts, ensuring delays are minimized and sufficient supplies are added.
  5. Pick up specified waste from each customer site scheduled for the day. Ensure that customers have packaged and prepared the waste by all federal, state, and local rules and regulations before transportation.
  6. Provide the highest level of customer service to assigned accounts daily, communicating any issues to the Transportation Manager / Supervisor or Dispatcher for resolution. This includes, but is not limited to, re-routes, adjustments in container sizes, training, etc.
  7. Ensure waste, supplies, and material handling equipment are secured before operating vehicles on public highways.
  8. Complete assigned paperwork legibly, neatly, accurately, and completely; return to the Transportation Supervisor or Dispatcher for processing. Complete DOT Driver Log if applicable.
  9. Communicate with the Stericycle Transportation Supervisor and/or Dispatcher regarding route pickup changes, address changes, or customer issues. Report problems/issues with accounts before the end of each day.
  10. Perform pre-trip and post-trip maintenance on assigned trucks before leaving or closing for the day. Report any maintenance problems for follow-up.
  11. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One or more years of related experience driving vehicles at least 5 tons and completion of an accredited driving school preferred.
  • Must possess a valid AZ driver’s license from Ontario.
  • Must have a clean driving record.
  • Mandatory immunizations and credentials may be required based on customer requirements.
  • Ability to use handheld computer devices.
  • Work safely and carefully to prevent injury while driving, loading, and unloading vehicles. Requires constant mental and visual attention.
