WSP is seeking technically skilled, and safety-focused Rock Lab Supervisor in our to lead operations at one of our large-scale rock mechanics laboratories in Burlington. This is not a desk-bound role—it’s for someone who thrives in the lab, guiding teams through complex testing programs and ensuring every sample tells a story of precision and reliability.

As a key leader in our Earth & Environment team, you’ll blend technical leadership, project management, and field expertise to oversee high-volume rock testing operations. You’ll manage a team of technicians, ensure rigorous safety and quality standards, and collaborate with project managers to deliver results that support major infrastructure and mining projects across Canada.

What you can expect to do here:

  • Lead and manage daily operations of the rock mechanics lab, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with WSP standards.
  • Supervise and mentor lab technicians, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee execution of rock testing programs, including sample preparation, equipment calibration, and data integrity.
  • Apply safety protocols and hazard mitigation strategies consistent with high-risk testing environments (e.g., radiation safety, mechanical pinch points, repetitive motion risks).
  • Collaborate with project managers and technical leads to align lab activities with project timelines and client expectations.
  • Maintain and optimize lab workflows, equipment usage, and resource allocation.
  • Support proposal development and client communications related to lab capabilities and deliverables.

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • Diploma or degree in Geotechnical or Mining Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of hands-on experience in advanced rock mechanics testing laboratories.
  • Proven leadership experience in a technical or supervisory role.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols for high-risk equipment (e.g., Portable Nuclear Gauge, radiation dosimetry).
  • Strong understanding of ASTM, ISRM, and other relevant testing standards.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience with large lab environments and high-volume testing programs is preferred.
