Job summary

SYSTRA Canada is seeking a Junior/Intermediate Civil 3D Designer to join our team supporting road and transit projects in Ontario. You will work with Design Leads to develop preliminary and detailed designs, produce civil drafting, and support project estimation and documentation.

Candidates should have a civil engineering background, proficiency in Civil 3D, and be eligible for engineering licensure in Ontario. A collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment awaits with occasional site visits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering preferred.
• Eligible for P.Eng. in Ontario or a Certified Engineering Technician (CET).
• Minimum 3 years of work experience in a similar capacity preferred.
• Requires basic engineering knowledge across disciplines with coordination support.
• Working knowledge and experience using Civil 3D for road and civil projects.
• Transit project experience would be an asset.
• Strong teamwork, organizational and communication skills; valid Ontario G driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Work with Design Lead(s) on project tasks.
• Participate in preliminary and detailed road design along the LRT alignment.
• Draft civil engineering drawings: roadway geometry, intersections, interchanges.
• Assist with design and contract documents and project specifications.
• Assist with quantity takeoffs to support project estimation.
• Prepare reports and document project activities.
• Contribute to Roads and Drainage and Staging Technical Working Groups.

Context

Reporting to the Project's Road Design Lead / Segment Lead; we are looking for a Junior/Intermediate Civil 3D Designer to join the team.

We are undertaking development of designs and preparation of cost proposal for a new project. The multi-disciplinary team is responsible the production of deliverables in full compliance with project requirements, industry standards, quality expectations, budget constraints, and schedule commitments. The team comprises a management group, segment leads, discipline leads, intermediate engineers and junior engineers. The Junior to Intermediate Civil 3D Designer will support the team with key responsibilities as indicated below.

Missions/Main Duties

• Work with Design Lead(s) to accomplish various tasks associated with the project;
• Participation in the preliminary and detailed design of roads along, adjacent to or intersecting with the LRT alignment;
• Undertaking drafting work for civil engineering, roadway geometric design including design of intersections and interchanges, roadside safety analysis, design of pavement marking and signage, traffic staging design, and quantity calculations;
• Assistance with the preparation of design and contract documents including technical and other project specifications;
• Assistance with quantity take off’s in support of project estimation;
• Prepare reports and document project activities and data;
• Provide input to and participate in the Roads and Drainage, and Staging and Temporary Traffic Technical Working Groups;

Profile/Skills

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering preferred.
• Eligible for P.Eng. in Ontario or a Certified Engineering Technician (CET).
• Minimum 3 years of work experience in a similar capacity preferred.
• Requires basic engineering knowledge in one or more disciplines and will be required to perform monitoring and auditing across multiple disciplines with the support of discipline leads.
• Working knowledge and experience using Civil 3D for road and civil projects.
• Previous experience on transit projects would be an asset
• Ability to work within multi-disciplinary technical teams and maintain effective working relationships. Experience with construction drawings, site work, construction quality control and reporting.
• Sound judgement; effective organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills; strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills including technical report writing skills. Working knowledge of personal computers and computerized applications related to the work. Valid Province of Ontario Class “G” Driver’s license and use of own vehicle for attending project sites, etc.

Ability to be present atleast 3 days/week at the Client/ Project Office.
