Day in the Life

As a Road Maintenance Patroller and Lead Hand, you will lead a crew of road maintenance labourers, set up daily work, and maintain highway infrastructure by repairing potholes, guardrails, installing small signs, repairing end treatments, and removing debris. You will operate and maintain equipment such as loaders, backhoes, excavators, power augers, chainsaws, lawn tractors, hand and power tools, and trucks to perform highway maintenance on provincial highways as per contract requirements.

Strong organizational skills are essential for maintaining accurate documentation, including truck and equipment inspections, patroller diaries, traffic control plans, daily work records, and worker hours.

You will also be on call for accident and highway closure events, assisting with traffic control at work zones and accident scenes, including setting up and taking down traffic closures.
