Summary: The competent Nurse, in the Emergency and other clinical settings, practices independently and demonstrates awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation. Provides routine and complex care in accordance with patient treatment plans. Continues to develop the ability to manage clinical nursing contingencies. Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers to help manage the clinical situation.
About: CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi - Shoreline, overlooking Corpus Christi Bay, is the largest acute care facility in the region, offering comprehensive diagnostic and surgical services, including cardiac, cancer, and stroke care. It is the area's leading emergency facility with a Level II Trauma Center, staffed with specially trained physicians and nurses.

Responsibilities:

- Be flexible in assignment within the ministry.
- Proactively provide availability for assignments.
- Be capable of working on more than one unit.
- Provide nursing care using the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Address complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
- Administer medications and treatments as per protocol, monitor effects.
- Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
- Assess learning needs and educate patients, families, and caregivers.
Core Competencies:
- Utilizes the Nursing Process: Use critical thinking to assess patient needs, communicate findings, develop and modify care plans, implement and evaluate care.
- Patient Throughput & Flow: Anticipate and plan for admissions, discharges, and transfers; utilize communication tools for patient flow.
- Unit Operations: Oversee nursing care, maintain equipment, assess staffing needs, educate staff.
- Safety & Quality: Promote patient safety, engage in quality improvement, ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
Technical Competencies:
- Follow clinical policies and standards, analyze documentation, and ensure organizational compliance.
- Maintain health information documentation, understand flow of information, transcribe orders accurately.
- Use and troubleshoot medical equipment, educate patients on home use, ensure equipment safety.
- Process medical orders accurately, interpret patient charts, and ensure patient safety through vigilant monitoring and response to signs of problems.
Job Requirements:
- Preferred Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in Emergency and another specialty; 5 years preferred.
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, TNCC, PALS (within 30 days), De-escalation Training (within 30 days).
- RN license in state or compact license.
