Alberta Health Services’ Lois Hole Hospital for Women at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton is seeking a Registered Nurse in a Labour & Delivery training position with cross-coverage in antepartum. The four-month Maternal Newborn Nursing Orientation includes 9 days of virtual training, 19 buddy shifts and 13 mentor shifts, leading to full RN practice in L&D after one year.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
• Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
• Knowledge of antepartum, labour and delivery, and immediate postpartum care.
• Successful completion of a medication exam at the time of the interview.
• CPR (BCLS) through Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
• Meet Physical Demands Requirements due to the unit's emergent nature.

Responsibilities

• Provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients and families.
• Utilize nursing processes with critical thinking, problem solving and decision making.
• Teach, counsel and advocate for patients and families.
• Play a leadership role in an integrated holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance.
• Deliver safe, high-quality, patient- and family-centered care in a high-acuity obstetric setting.
