RN Acute - Pediatric Emergency Department - Methodist

UnityPoint Health Des Moines

Shift: Full-Time, 7p-7a, every 4th weekend rotation

Sign-On Bonus: $10,000 paid over 2 years

As a member of the interdisciplinary team, contributes professional nursing knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients and their families. Maintains a practice environment that reflects the ANA Code for Nurses, Philosophy of Nursing at UnityPoint Health within the structure of the Professional Nurse Practice Model and in collaboration with other caregivers. The Pediatric Emergency Department provides care for children from birth through 17 years of age, using a Family-Centered Care approach. It is a newly constructed department with state-of-the-art equipment, including 12 treatment rooms and 6 express care examination rooms. The department is a designated Pediatric Level II Trauma Center.

Responsibilities
  • Provides and coordinates nursing care to patients using the nursing process.
  • Completes documentation to ensure an accurate record of patient's care.
  • Uses critical thinking to make independent judgments and maintains responsibility for patient condition knowledge.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other professionals in planning and implementing care within hospital policy and legal boundaries.
  • Assesses patient and family needs, provides education to facilitate discharge planning, and makes referrals to community agencies for continuity of care.
  • Demonstrates professional development by staying current with nursing practices and healthcare trends.
Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing school or approved program. A BSN is preferred.

Qualifications: Current Iowa RN license, minimum six months RN experience. Must obtain and maintain BLS certification within three months of hire; ACLS within 12 months; CCRN encouraged; TNCC/TCAR within 12 months; and complete Essentials of Critical Care orientation with a score of 80% or higher.

Department of Labor Level III (Medium) Work.
