Job description

Revelstoke Mountain Resort (RMR) is a division of Canada’s largest privately held hospitality company, Northland Properties Corporation (NPC), and since its inception in 2007, we have gained a reputation for big mountain riding, legendary powder and an authentic Canadian resort town. This role will also manage the retail and equipment rental operations for Selkirk Tangiers Heli Skiing (STHS), another NPC company located in Revelstoke, BC. STHS offers over 500,000 acres of ski terrain in and around Revelstoke, providing an exceptional heli-skiing experience.

Job Summary

With over 500,000 annual visitors to RMR, this role will lead the team in showcasing world-class examples of both hard and soft goods retail outlets. It will ensure excellent service in boot fitting, equipment repairs and maintenance, high-quality demos and rentals, and effective merchandising. The Director will be an expert in industry trends, connecting with influential and aspirational brands, and setting and achieving sales targets while maintaining high standards of customer service and employee engagement.

This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of the outdoors industry. The Director will routinely communicate with other senior management personnel to leverage various departments at RMR and STHS, delivering an exceptional guest experience across all aspects of the visit, including operations, accommodation, food and beverage, and more. Coordination with Sales and Marketing is integral to this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Build and lead a team in alignment with the Vision and Values
Develop and implement strategies to build a brand and customer following and in turn drive sales growth and profitability.
Oversee the daily operations of retail, rental and repair stores, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
Following forecasted labour budgets, controlling cost of goods, manage expenses and labour according to revenue to keep in line with current and forecasted events
Collaborate with marketing, merchandising, and supply chain teams to ensure alignment of brand and optimize product offerings and promotions.
Foster a customer-centric culture by identifying and implementing innovative solutions to ensure exceptional retail, rental and repair guest experience and satisfaction.
Monitor and analyze sales performance, customer feedback, and market trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
Source, select, and purchase retail merchandise to support revenue growth, develop and manage store merchandising, and negotiate payment terms and costs.
Maintains current status on technological and operational advances and trends in the industry and otherwise, which may impact operations.
Serves as a working member of upper management for the Resort. Fosters support and teamwork at all levels.
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of store managers and staff in each outlet and service area.
Ensure employees receive the training, support, guidance and resources necessary to perform their jobs adequately and efficiently.
Promoting a positive work environment and culture by leading by example and maintaining a strong and supportive relationship with all staff
Exerts a consistent and effective leadership presence. Maintains and enhances a guest obsessed and safety focused culture.
Accountable to follow established Resort policies and procedures and to ensure the same for all Retail Operations employees.
Ensure that all work areas are clean, orderly and safe during the execution of day-to-day functions.
Participates in management meetings as required. Communicate with others regularly to plan, coordinate, and evaluate programs, to exchange information and to improve operations.
Accepts diverse assignments, maintaining a positive and friendly attitude and demeanor.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises managers/supervisors. Responsible for hiring, performance management and coaching/guiding or employees as appropriate and necessary. Provides resource and guidance to managers/ supervisors in the supervision of these employees.

Qualifications and Abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Approachable, strong and outgoing leader – able to build rapport and confidence quickly with internal and external stakeholders.
Undergraduate degree or certification in business or outdoor related programs are considered an asset.
Have a minimum of 8 years of advanced or advancing Outdoor retail experience including P&L responsibility.
Have a minimum of 5 years of team management that includes recruiting, hiring, training, goal setting and performance appraisals.
Have a minimum of 3 years of a senior buyer role in a retail store or franchise
Experience buying summer and winter outdoor technical gear and rental fleets, as well as promotional related merchandise.
Working knowledge of ski area management and related operational activities considered an asset.
Effective leadership and communication skills with the ability to delegate responsibility and motivate and lead employees.
Strong problem solving & decision-making skills including conflict management experience and ability.
Experience leading multiple functions.
Ability to handle public relations and crisis situations in a composed and professional manner.
Strong skills with Microsoft Office suite & POS systems
Understanding of SQL database reports and PowerBI reporting an asset
Ability to work a flexible schedule including opening, closing, weekends and holidays
Successful candidate must complete a criminal record check once offered the position.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary $90,000.00 – $115,000.00 per annum
