Job description

Congregation Beth Israel is the largest Conservative synagogue in Western Canada, with a membership of over 680 families. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to assist as ritual assistant for the congregation's clergy. This regular part-time (50%) position reports directly to the Senior Rabbi.

Responsibilities :

A key member of the Clergy Team, the individual is responsible for the following major areas :

  • Manage Senior Rabbi’s calendar and scheduling, email, and written correspondence. Provide ‘right hand’ assistance for projects and programming.
  • Work with Associate Rabbi on clerical and administrative support, including managing calendar
  • Work with Ba’alat Tefilah (Torah Reader) and assist with clerical and administrative support
  • Work closely with clergy to help lifecycle moments run smoothly.
  • Provide logistical and practical coordination for Shabbat and holiday services, including planning for tech, setups, and facility needs.
  • Liaise between clergy and lay leaders so that lay-led holiday experiences are coordinated with clergy
  • Provide administrative support for lifecycle events such as baby naming, weddings, and funerals, including setup and facilities plan for on-site rituals.
  • Along with other staff, provide office support for answering phones and front door; provide other assistance as needed.

Other responsibilities include :

  • Work with lay leaders to secure Zoom hosts and other volunteer roles
  • Collaborate with lay leaders on committee needs
  • Communicate tech setup with facility staff

This is a part-time job with benefits. Gross Annual Salary : $36,400
