A career as a Market Risk Senior Advisor in the team of Market Risk at National Bank involves overseeing and monitoring market risk and the performance of the commodity desk. This role offers the opportunity to impact the organization positively as the primary contact with the front office for your activities.

  • Ensure the accuracy of the identification, measurement, and control of market risks.
  • Serve as an expert and resource within the risk management team by providing quantitative expertise in pricing and risk assessment of complex products.
  • Provide independent daily oversight of activities involving commodity products.
  • Represent risk monitoring in meetings with regulators, auditors, and internal / external committees.
  • Analyze and communicate changes in risk exposures, trends, and potential threats; develop and calibrate stress test scenarios accordingly.
  • Recommend limits and controls to ensure the adequacy of the risk management framework aligned with the Bank's risk appetite.
  • Lead new product initiatives, identify associated risks, and ensure proper procedures and controls are in place before launch.
  • Propose and approve market parameters, methodologies, and assumptions for valuation assessments.
  • Perform and review Independent Price Verification (IPV) processes and methodologies.

This position is based in Calgary, reporting to the Senior Manager, Global Trading Risk Oversight - Equities and Commodities, within the Capital Markets and Treasury Risk Management sector.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in finance, financial engineering, mathematics, or related field, with 4-7 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills; capable of managing complex processes and analyzing large datasets.
  • Deep understanding of market risks (VaR, stress tests, sensitivities) and risk measurement models for derivatives.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex information verbally and in writing, adapting to different audiences.
  • Finance and risk management certifications (CFA, FRM) are advantageous.
  • Experience in a Front Office role, trading floor experience preferred.
  • Comfortable engaging with senior management.
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks related to market risk is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Python, Git, Tableau / PowerBI, Murex, and Bloomberg software.
