Job description

Established in 1992, Health Organizations Protective Association (HOPA) is a leading insurance reciprocal dedicated to supporting the insurance and risk management needs of healthcare entities across Nova Scotia. Fueled by the mantra “the reciprocal advantage” HOPA provides an insurance program that goes beyond insurance placement by maintaining a vibrant relationship with its members to deliver comprehensive claims and risk management services tailored to the unique needs of its Subscribers. With an unwavering commitment to excellence, HOPA offers property and a broad range of liability insurance services to crucial members of Nova Scotia’s healthcare system including Nova Scotia Health, Emergency Health Services, Health Association Nova Scotia and the St. Anne Community and Nursing Care Centre.

Reporting to the CEO, the Risk Manager will demonstrate exceptional skills that foster a culture of collaboration and synergy within the claims team to craft and execute a robust risk management framework. With a strong focus on fortifying HOPA’s Subscribers and nurturing a culture of active engagement, the Risk Manager will use strategic data analysis to interpret potential risks and collaborate with the claims team. A strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate future risks, the Risk Manager will leverage comprehensive insight paired with effective communication skills to convey complex ideas and initiatives to internal stakeholders and Subscribers.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess an undergraduate degree and a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation. A minimum of 5 years of commercial or in-house risk management experience is required, preferably in healthcare or property insurance. Additional designations including Canadian Risk Management (CRM) and Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) are considered an asset. The Risk Manager will embody a customer-centric approach and will be dedicated to delivering support and value to Subscribers, empowering them to navigate risks with confidence and resilience. Through proactive engagement and strategic alignment, the Risk Manager plays a vital role in safeguarding HOPA’s mission to deliver unparalleled support and value to its Subscribers.
