The Independence Group helps ensure the firm and its personnel are in compliance with Professional, Regulatory, and KPMG Global (and local country) independence standards. This role focuses on liaising with Partners and Staff across all service lines about standards and policies related to independence, including those established by the SEC, PCAOB, CPA Code, and IESBA Code.

What you bring to the role:
  • Apply technical knowledge and expertise in Canadian, SEC, PCAOB, and IESBA auditor independence rules, supporting client engagement teams;
  • Assist in managing the review and approval workflow for assessing services permissibility for audit clients;
  • Use research, critical thinking, and analytical skills to evaluate the firm’s independence and relationships with audit clients;
  • Provide consultations to KPMG partners and teams across Canada on independence issues;
  • Guide client engagement teams in independence clearance procedures;
  • Develop and update independence policies, processes, and tools to ensure compliance and best practices;
  • Promote commitment to audit quality, risk management, and independence policies;
  • Prepare technical alerts, guidance, training materials, and other deliverables;
  • Supervise team members on independence requests and tasks;
  • Manage projects and identify process improvements.

At times, business needs may require working beyond normal hours. Our flexible approach supports personal matters as well.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Minimum five years of client service experience in independence, audit, or risk management within a professional services firm or similar environment;
  • CPA or risk qualification;
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, diligent, responsive;
  • Strong research, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills;
  • Initiative and organizational skills;
  • Experience responding to complex inquiries, analyzing data, and documenting findings;
  • Excellent time management and ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle challenging situations confidently;
  • Leadership and relationship management skills;
  • Ability to handle sensitive information appropriately;
  • Fluency in English, both written and oral.

This role supports Risk Management for KPMG nationally, requiring English fluency for collaboration and documentation.

Compensation:

The base salary range is $73,000 to $109,500, with potential bonuses. Salary depends on location, skills, and qualifications. KPMG offers a comprehensive Total Rewards program.
