The Government of Alberta’s Ministry of Transportation and Economic Corridor’s is looking for a motivated individual to join the Traffic Safety Services division in Edmonton as the Reviewing Officer. If you are looking for a challenging yet exciting opportunity, look no further and apply!

Reporting to the Team Lead of Medical Fitness, the Reviewing Officer strives to improve safety on Alberta’s roadways by keeping drivers safe and mobile through the application of medical fitness standards for drivers wishing to obtain or maintain an Alberta’s Driver's License. The Reviewing Officer has overall responsibility to review medical and other documentation provided by drivers, physicians, insurance companies, law enforcement agencies, driving assessment centres, and driver examiners to determine what action should be taken.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluating the medical and physical fitness of high-risk drivers to determine their ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • Implementing decisions of the Registrar and managing client’s driving privileges.
  • Soliciting advice from the Medical Review Committee (MRC), medical professionals, and driver assessment agencies on matters which pertain to contentious drivers.
  • Acting on behalf of the Registrar at quasi-judicial boards and Provincial Court.
  • Developing continual program enhancements to improve the decision-making process in ascertaining the mental and cognitive fitness of high-risk drivers.
  • Providing IT project development support of branch database systems as required.

Qualifications

  • Two-year diploma in a related field.
  • 5 years of progressively responsible related experience in a similar position such as Registry Agent.
  • Extensive experience with relevant computer software and systems, such as Microsoft Office, ROADS/MOVES, CMT, and ARTS.

Equivalencies: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Assets:

  • Solid understanding and knowledge of the provincial legislation, policies, and guidelines related to traffic safety issues in Alberta.
  • Knowledge of Traffic Safety policies and guidelines including but not limited to, the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators Medical Standards for Drivers.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of medical and pharmaceutical terminology.
  • Experience with complex client communication.

Term of Employment: Permanent full-time position.

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday / 36.25 hours per week

Location: Twin Atria Building, 4999 98 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta.
