Responsibilities:
- Promptly review received applications daily, verify supporting documentation for accuracy and legitimacy, then approve, decline, or refer applications for approval.
- Ensure approved deals close as scheduled and efficiently by following up on outstanding conditions/documents and ensuring compliance with guidelines.
- Follow up with brokers daily on mortgage commitments to maximize funding volumes.
- Review documentation for accuracy and legitimacy, emphasizing AML and ATF requirements, including income and down payment verification.
- Serve as the main point of contact, providing underwriting and mortgage fulfillment expertise to mortgage brokers, direct-to-client representatives, and supporting colleagues to meet service levels.
- Manage deal flow to meet deadlines and SLAs, utilizing reports to track and manage funding pipeline.
- Assess applicant’s fit with reverse mortgage criteria, including creditworthiness and legal ability to assume a mortgage, performing activities like title searches, property maintenance, appraisal review, and borrower documentation review to meet policies, regulations, and specific requirements.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in business or finance.
- Minimum 2 years’ mortgage experience, preferably with reverse mortgage exposure.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, responding clearly and professionally.
- Experience in reverse mortgage or single-family residential mortgage lending is an asset.
- Excellent time management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Meticulous organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of AML & ATF practices and fraud risk in the mortgage industry, with the ability to address concerns of misrepresentation.
- In-depth knowledge of mortgage funding, QA, and underwriting guidelines is an asset.
- Experience underwriting mortgages across different provinces is an asset.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word and Excel).
- Ability to adapt to a changing, high-volume environment.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with brokers.
