Job Summary
PetSmart’s Store Leader oversees safety, pet parent experience, operations, financial outcomes, and HR functions within the store. The role involves providing leadership, driving culture and strategies, achieving results, and upholding company values.
Essential Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
People Leadership
- Recruitment, interviewing, hiring, coaching, and termination decisions.
- Fostering an open-door culture, engaging with associates, and leveraging feedback tools.
- Creating and managing staff schedules.
- Supporting associate development through reviews, recognition, training, and mentoring.
- Delegating tasks and empowering team members.
- Communicating effectively and responding to changing priorities.
- Handling associate grievances and recognizing engagement.
- Ensuring timely completion of reviews.
Overall Store Experience
- Leading the associate and pet parent experience, ensuring safety and health of pets.
- Managing pet parent interactions and resolving concerns.
- Creating a positive store environment and collaborating on events.
- Maintaining store standards and compliance.
- Conducting safety and policy audits.
- Responding to safety incidents and managing store procedures.
Business Management
- Executing corporate strategies and achieving profitability goals.
- Analyzing reports, identifying issues, and implementing improvements.
- Driving sales growth and managing expenses.
- Coordinating with corporate partners and managing schedules and payroll.
- Preparing reports and supporting store operations.
Qualifications
- 4-6 years retail leadership or customer-focused experience.
- Full-time availability, flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and maintain composure.
Supervisory Responsibility
Overseeing Experience and Process Leaders, up to six lead associates, and 10-70 non-leader associates, in accordance with company policies.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Standing, walking, climbing, handling objects, and reaching are required.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds frequently; team lifts over 100 pounds occasionally.
- Exposure to moving parts, pet hair, and animal handling; moderate noise level.
