Retail Security Officer

Title: Retail Security.

Reports To: Store Manager.

Status: Non-exempt.

Function: The Retail Security position is responsible to ensure the safety and security of our thrift store, its employees, customers, and merchandise.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Monitor the thrift store’s interior and exterior to deter theft, vandalism, or disruptive behavior.
2. Conduct regular patrols of the premises, including sales floors, stockrooms, and parking areas.
3. Prevent theft at the front of store by performing receipt checks for exposed high-dollar merchandise.
4. Greet and interact professionally with customers while maintaining vigilance.
5. Utilize de-escalation tactics when there are disturbances.
6. Respond promptly to incidents, disturbances, or emergencies, following ARC guidelines.
7. When necessary, coordinate with store management and law enforcement when there is suspected theft. Call 911 for any high-risk situations.
8. If available monitor security cameras, alarms, and other surveillance equipment, reporting irregularities to management.
9. Ensure compliance with store policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
10. Provide assistance to store management during opening and/or closing procedures.
11. Assist with bank deposits.
12. Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance.
13. Document and report daily activities, incidents, or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel.
14. Observe and report suspicious activity and protect Salvation Army property and staff by maintaining a safe and secure environment.
15. Warn violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles.
16. May assist with store functions as needed.
17. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
2. Security experience preferred.
3. Must be able to write incident reports as needed.

2. Lifting: Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
3. Push/Pull Using Machinery: No.
4. Standing: Over 2/3 of the time.
5. Walking: Over 2/3 of the time.
6. Reaching: Under 1/3 of the time.
7. Climbing: Under 1/3 of the time.
8. Stooping: Under 1/3 of the time.
