Job Summary

PetSmart’s Pet Associate (Retail Sales Associate) engages with pet parents and their pets, providing positive experiences and upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. Responsibilities include store cleanliness, pet safety standards, and direct pet care within our store.

Job Responsibilities

• Engage with pet parents in person, over the phone, at the register, and online.
• Greet pet parents and answer questions throughout the store.
• Prepare online orders for pick-up, ensuring a positive experience.
• Care for store-owned pets, including feeding, watering, and cleaning habitats.
• Maintain store cleanliness standards.
• Support weekly price changes and promotional pricing.
• Stage and sort new products to match sales floor plans.
• Replenish and recover products to meet standards.
• Recommends, informs, and sells merchandise, services, and live pets.
• Administer store-owned pet medications as directed by a veterinarian.
• Promote special events like adoption weekends and charity events.
• Ensure a safe environment for staff, pets, and customers.
• Take immediate action if a sick or injured pet is identified.
• Assist in various store areas as needed. Other duties may be assigned.
• Participate in our culture of Belonging and Recognition.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Stand, walk, climb ladders, and handle objects; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. Vision abilities include depth perception. Accommodations may be made for disabilities.
• Frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds; occasionally more than 100 pounds with team lift.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet environments, pet hair, and moderate to high noise levels. Handling live animals is common.
