Job Summary

PetSmart’s Pet Associate (Retail Sales Associate) is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role also shares responsibility for store cleanliness, maintenance, pet safety standards, and the direct care of pets within our store.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Engaging with pet parents in person, over the phone, at the sales register, and online to ensure positive outcomes.
2. Greeting pet parents and answering their questions throughout the store.
3. Preparing online orders for in-store pickup and ensuring a smooth, positive experience.
4. Caring for store-owned pets, including feeding, watering, and cleaning habitats (birds, reptiles, small animals, insects, and fish aquariums).
5. Maintaining store cleanliness standards.
6. Supporting weekly price changes and promotional pricing.
7. Staging and sorting new products to match sales floor planners.
8. Filling, facing, and recovering products to meet sales standards.
9. Recommending, informing, and selling merchandise, services, and live pets.
10. Administering store-owned pet medications as directed by a veterinarian.
11. Promoting special events such as adoption weekends, Treats enrollment, and charity events.
12. Ensuring a safe environment for staff, pets, and customers.
13. Acting immediately when a sick or injured pet is identified, including transport to a vet as needed.
14. Assisting in various areas of the store as required.
15. Participating in our culture of Belonging and Recognition.
16. Following all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Standing, walking, climbing ladders, and using hands for various tasks. Reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking, and hearing are required. Visual acuity for depth perception is necessary.
• Frequent lifting and moving up to 50 pounds; occasional team lifting over 100 pounds.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet environments with pet hair, moderate noise levels, and live animals.
