Job Summary

PetSmart’s Process Lead (Retail Operations Supervisor) shares responsibility to drive operational excellence in our stores while upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role involves merchandising and inventory management, pet care operations, store opening and closing, overseeing associates, and maintaining a safe, organized environment.

Principal Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

People Leadership

• Support and guide sales associates in merchandise handling, providing training on product knowledge and presentation standards.
• Facilitate the associate experience and support development through training, onboarding, mentoring, coaching, and performance feedback.
• Delegate and validate completion of daily tasks.
• Lead and direct associates when acting as the leader on duty.
• Address and resolve associate complaints and grievances.
• Recognize and celebrate associates to boost engagement.

Store Operations and Overall Store Experience

• Implement merchandise strategies to optimize sales, including receiving, product placement, displays, and promotions.
• Manage inventory levels, conduct audits, analyze sales trends, and recommend stock replenishments and markdowns.
• Maintain accurate inventory records and address discrepancies.
• Operate POS systems and handle transactions accurately.
• Uphold store standards and ensure compliance with policies and ethics.
• Participate in opening and closing procedures.
• Conduct monthly inventory counts and address discrepancies.
• Ensure pet care standards, including feeding, cleaning, and health monitoring.
• Support online order pickups and ship-from-store services.
• Ensure the safety and health of pets in our care and respond promptly to any issues.
• Follow policies for new pet arrivals and quarantine procedures.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of retail supervisory experience in a customer-focused environment.
• Full-time availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Proficiency with computer applications.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and maintain composure.

Supervisory Responsibility

• No direct reports but support and guide other associates.
• Provide performance feedback to supervisors.
• Act as the leader in the absence of other leaders, supervising associates and managing tasks.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Stand, walk, climb ladders, and handle objects; reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear.
• Lift up to 50 pounds regularly; team lift more than 100 pounds occasionally.
• Work in a moderate noise environment, with exposure to pet hair, live animals, and mechanical parts.
