Job description

Home: Hallowell House LTC

Location: Picton, ON

Position: Restorative Care Aide (RPN), Part-Time

Summary

Role Summary: The Restorative Care Aide (RCA) is responsible for developing and implementing individual and group functional restoration programs based on assessed resident needs or referrals by a physiotherapist. The goal is to help residents maintain and improve their functional abilities for activities of daily living with minimal assistance. The RCA collaborates with other healthcare providers and works under the guidance of a Physiotherapist.


The RCA performs various restorative activities, including:

  1. Group Exercises: Assisting residents with weight-bearing activities and moving limbs through directed ranges of motion, supporting limb or joint movement by crouching, bending, or reaching forward.
  2. Individual Exercises: Working one-on-one with residents to facilitate exercise and ROM activities outlined in the care plan, potentially including restorative assessments to evaluate progress.
  3. Activities of Daily Living: Supporting residents in performing daily activities such as getting out of bed, personal hygiene, dressing, eating, and drinking, often involving teaching strategies and using assistive devices.
  4. Restorative Walking Program: Assisting residents with walking, using gait belts or walkers, providing support to prevent instability or fatigue.
  5. Other Activities: Daily charting, updating care plans, participating in staff and in-service meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse.
  • Restorative Nursing certification is an asset.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in restorative nursing.
  • Physically capable of performing the duties required.
