Job summary

Canopy by Hilton Toronto Yorkville is seeking a Server to provide fast and courteous food and beverage service to guests, ensuring quality presentation per established standards.

You will greet guests, take orders, prepare drinks, and assist with opening/closing duties while maintaining a positive guest experience in a vibrant downtown Toronto setting.

Qualifications

• Basic reading and writing. Food service experience with general knowledge of restaurant operations.
• Alcohol awareness certification and/or food service permit or valid health/food handler card as required by local regulations.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests and take beverage and food orders promptly and professionally. Follow the steps of service.
• Prepare food and beverages for service to hotel guests and present food according to health and presentation standards.
• Clear and clean tables promptly and efficiently; clean walls, windows, and floors as necessary.
• Perform side-work and opening/closing duties; keep wait staff stations clean and maintained.
• Alert Outlet Management of any service or safety issues and perform recovery gestures as needed.
• Must be able to make cocktails, pour wine, work behind the bar, and have wine/cocktail knowledge.
• May receive guest payments and process transactions as outlined in cash/charge procedures.
• Perform other duties including setup/tear down for events and assisting in in-room dining when required.
• Follow Brand Standards and participate in signature activations as required.

Position Title: Server

Reports To: Director, Food and Beverage

Position Status: This posting is for a current job opening.

JOB OVERVIEW

Provide fast and courteous food and beverage service to guests and ensure the quality of food and beverage presentation per established standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Greet all guests and take beverage and food orders promptly and professionally. Follow the steps of service.
• Prepare food and beverages for service to hotel guests and present food according to established health and presentation standards.
• Clear and clean tables promptly and efficiently. Clean and/or wipe down tables, chairs, walls, windows, mirrors, and floors as necessary.
• Perform side-work and any other opening or closing duties as required. Ensure that wait staff stations are clean and maintained throughout the shift.
• Alert Outlet Management of any service and/or safety issues. Make appropriate service recovery gestures according to established guidelines to ensure total guest satisfaction.
• Must be able to make cocktails, pour wine, work behind the bar when required, and have wine and cocktail knowledge.
• May receive guest payments and process transactions as outlined in the cash and charge procedures as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including moving furniture, banquet duties, and setup/tear down for special events. In carrying out your duties, you will follow all Company and Brand Standards.
• Occasionally will be required to conduct or assist in the in-room dining operations.
• When required, setting up and executing our signature Evening Tasting Activation.
• May perform bar duties, including set-up and tear-down.

Qualifications and Requirements

Basic reading and writing. Food service experience with general knowledge of restaurant operations.

This job requires the ability to perform the following:

• Carrying or lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds
• Remain stationery for extended periods of time.
• Moving about the restaurant

Other:

• Communication skills are utilized for a significant amount of time when interacting with guests, wait staff, cooks, and supervisors.
• Alcohol awareness certification and/or food service permit or valid health/food handler card as required by local or state government agency.
• Reading and writing abilities are utilized often when taking orders, completing paperwork, etc.
• Basic math skills are frequently used when handling cash and credit.
• May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.

• Follow safe work procedures as outlined in Departmental Policy and Procedures manuals, including the use of personal protective equipment.
• Know and comply with all Occupational Health & Safety regulations, as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Ministry of Labor.
• Report all injuries or illnesses to a supervisor or manager immediately.
• Participate in the Joint Health and Safety Committee by bringing health and safety concerns or issues to the attention of the committee.
