Job description

MaintainX is the world's leading Asset and Work Intelligence platform for industrial and frontline environments. We are a modern IoT-enabled cloud-based tool for reliability, safety, and operations on physical equipment and facilities. MaintainX powers operational excellence for 10,000+ businesses including Duracell, Univar Solutions Inc., Titan America, McDonald's, Brenntag, Cintas, Xylem, and Shell.

We've raised $104 million in venture capital following a recent Series C funding round led by Bain Capital Ventures, Bessemer Ventures, August Capital, Amity Ventures, Ridge Ventures as well as CEO’s from GE, Twilio, Coupa, Toast and PagerDuty, MaintainX is building the intelligence layer for the industrial world.

As we enter the next phase of our growth, we're investing deeply in AI/ML, LLMs, and Industrial IoT to transform how frontline teams operate—predicting failures before they happen, automating tedious workflows, and embedding intelligence into every asset and procedure.

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a hybrid team of Fullstack Developers and AI/ML Developers, responsible for building product experiences and embedding intelligence directly into our workflows. You’ll manage a cross-functional team of Applied Machine Learning Developers, Data Scientists, and Software Developers responsible for end-to-end development and deployment of AI/ML products—including but not limited to predictive & prescriptive maintenance models, intelligent work recommendations, LLM-driven procedures, and real-time anomaly detection.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of Fullstack Product Engineering and Applied AI, and who can scale a team to deliver across both.

You’ll help set the technical vision for AI/ML at MaintainX, partnering closely with Product, Data Engineering, and cross-functional product teams to operationalize intelligence at scale.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead cross-functional teams of 6–10 developers across Fullstack Developers (React/Node.js), ML Developers (Python), and Data Science.
  • Own the roadmap & technical strategy closely with Product, Design, and Engineering to scope and help teams deliver AI-powered features.
  • Drive a culture of experimentation, applied research, and rigorous measurement—making sure we ship models that work in the real world.
  • Lead/Grow/Coach developers on your team, help them develop new skills/experiences, advance their careers.
  • Understand needs for your team and help enable every developer to contribute to the team's goals.
  • Highlight the team’s impact with senior leadership.
  • Recruit and mentor world-class AI/ML talent, building a high-performance team that can move fast and think big.

About you:

  • 4+ years of engineering management experience with at least 2+ years leading high-performing AI/ML and/or applied science teams.
  • Experience managing teams that include Fullstack Developers, AI/ML Developers and Data Scientists.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across technical and business functions.
  • Knowledge of modern web development frameworks (React, Node.js) and API design.
  • Familiarity with ML/LLM ecosystems (e.g. fine-tuning, RAG, prompt orchestration, vector DBs, LlamaIndex, or similar frameworks).
  • Strong product instincts—able to translate ambiguous problems into measurable experiments and data products.

Nice to have:

  • Experience working in real-world domains like industrial systems, manufacturing, IoT, logistics, or asset management.
  • Familiarity with time-series modeling, anomaly detection, sensor fusion, and real-time ML inference.
  • Experience with cloud-based ML tooling (AWS, Databricks, etc.).

Why MaintainX?

This is a rare opportunity to bring cutting-edge ML/AI into one of the most impactful industries in the world. You won’t just be building models—you’ll be transforming how people operate machines, maintain assets, and make real-world decisions.

What’s in it for you:

  • Competitive salary and meaningful equity opportunities.
  • Healthcare, dental, and vision coverage.
  • You’ll work alongside folks across the globe that reflect the MaintainX values: Smart Humble Optimists.
  • We believe in meritocracy, where ideas and effort are publicly celebrated.
