Job Title: Respite Care Worker and Program Assistant – Leaping Lizards

Status: Temporary Part-time (1-year contract)

Hours: 42 bi-weekly hours

Pay scale: $20.57/hr - $24.20/hr

Job Summary

The Respite Care Worker provides quality respite childcare for parents with children aged 0 to 6 at the Corkstown Transitional House. The Program Assistant oversees planning and onsite delivery of an after-school/summer program for high-risk children aged 4 to 6, and supports high-risk families with information and resources.

Job Specific Responsibilities

  • Set up and plan an environment with age-appropriate activities following the How Does Learning Happen pedagogy.
  • Ensure health and safety regulations under the Childcare Early Years Act are met.
  • Participate in programming and organizational meetings, as required.
  • Provide information, support, and resources to high-risk families.
  • Supervise program assistants, volunteers, and student placements.
  • Perform administrative duties such as registrations, attendance, data collection, and program purchases.
  • Liaise with other relevant programs at PQCHC and partner facilities.
  • Represent the program within the community at meetings, as required.
  • Supervise up to 20 children, ages 0 to 6.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Early Childhood Education or equivalent.
  • Two years' experience working with children.
  • Knowledge or experience working with high-risk families.
  • Good organizational and administrative skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with adults and children.
  • Program planning experience.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Current certificate in First Aid/CPR.
  • English proficiency is essential; knowledge of other languages is an asset.
