Job Title: Respite Care Worker and Program Assistant – Leaping Lizards

Status: Temporary Part-time (1 year contract)

Hours: 42 bi-weekly hours

Pay scale: $20.57/hr - $24.201/hr

Job Summary

As a respite care worker, you will provide quality respite childcare for parents with children aged 0 to 6 at the Corkstown Transitional House. As an afterschool program assistant, you will oversee the planning and onsite delivery of an after-school/summer program geared to high-risk children ages 4 to 6, and provide support, information, and resources to high-risk families.

Job Specific Responsibilities

  • Set up and plan an environment with age-appropriate activities following the How Does Learning Happen pedagogy
  • Ensure that health and safety regulations under the Childcare Early Years Act are met
  • Participate in programming and organizational meetings, as required
  • Provide information, support, and resources to high-risk families
  • Supervise program assistants, volunteers, and student placements
  • Perform program-related administrative duties such as registrations, attendance, data collection, and program purchases
  • Liaise with other relevant programs at PQCHC and those of the facility where the program operates
  • Represent the program within the community at meetings, as required
  • Supervise up to 20 children, ages 0 to 6
  • Other duties, as required

Qualifications

  • Early Childhood Education or equivalent
  • Two years' experience working with children
  • Knowledge or experience working with high-risk families
  • Good organizational and administrative skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with adults and children
  • Program planning experience
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Current certificate in First Aid/CPR
  • English essential, other languages considered an asset
