Purpose Statement
The Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Support Staff provides care for c hildren and adults with a diagnosed Intellectual disability. Services include Centre-Based Respite, Residential Care, Summer Programs and Day Programs.
Service
Responsibilities:
Responsible to provide support and assistance as necessary to ensure participation of the children and youth in all recreation and leisure activities; actively supervises all activities by involving self in program.
Responsible to familiarize self with each child and youth attending the program, recognizing and supporting each of their individual needs.
Follow through on any treatment programs and/or communication programs, specific to individual participants.
Dispense medications required and ensures that all medication charting is completed in compliance with established agency policies.
Provide assistance with personal care as necessary.
Provide input to program planning, organizing and facilitating individual and group activities, skill level and interests, which promotes inclusion for all participants.
Communicate with parent/guardian regarding any concerns, observations, or questions and provide parent/guardian with feedback regarding program participation.
Responsible for transportation of participants in the program vehicles. Provide intervention for any behavioural challenges.
Supervise all activities by involving self in program.
Address any program needs, concerns and/or questions to either the Lead Staff or Program Director.
Ensure any required reports or recording is completed as necessary (e.g. incident report form); ensure payroll advice sheets are submitted bi-weekly.
Complete any housekeeping responsibilities and meal/snack preparation, as related to program needs. Complete other related duties as assigned by the Lead Staff and/or Program Director.

Physical Demands:
Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
Frequent lifting, twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, pushing and pulling.
Walking and standing for long periods.
Some kneeling, running may be required.
Organizational
Responsibilities:
Develop an understanding of the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
Uphold all Salvation Army policies, directives, and operating guidelines as contained in the Policy Manual of The Salvation Army London Village.
Work within the legal standards of the Ministry of Community and Social Services and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services (Child and Family Services Act and Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act 2008).
Maintain information in confidence as required.
Participate as an active and responsible team member Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Maintain all certifications as required. Mandatory attendance at scheduled staff meetings.
Represent the Respite Program on internal committees as appropriate.
Participate in ongoing professional development and training.
Participate in participant specific and/or program specific training as required.
Participate in supervision and annual performance appraisal process.
Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution Participate in supervision and annual performance appraisal process.
This position description will be reviewed by the employee and supervisor on a regular basis. Amendments can be made at any time at the discretion of the employer.
Qualifications:
Completed two (2) years of Community College, Developmental Service Worker Diploma preferably in Social Services or equivalent
Minimum of one (1) year or prior related experience, including frontline work in a social services setting, life skills and experience in a related field, experience in providing direct care to youth or adults who have intellectual disabilities; dealing with crises.
Specific experience supporting people with Autism Spectrum Disorder
Strong oral and written communication skills
Self-motivated and disciplined.
Current First Aid & CPR Certification
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
Must have strong computer skills and experience using word processing (WORD); spread sheet use (EXCEL)
Valid Ontario class “G” Driver’s License; a current original copy of a drivers abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required
Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry is required
Fluent French verbal and written communications skills are an asset.
Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.

Conditions of Employment:
This is a temporary full-time position from June 30 – August 8, 2025, Monday to Friday 8 hour shifts and will include a ½ hour paid meal break; hours of work and work schedule will be set by the Program Supervisor.
Some flexibility in scheduling may be required.
Normal location of work is at: 1340 Dundas Street, London ON N5W 3B6
Compensation:

Compensation:
