AdaptAbilities in St. Albert, AB is seeking a part-time Respite/Disability Worker – Community Specialist In Training. You will support the Out of School Care and High School Transition programs for youth with diverse abilities, providing safe care, mentorship, and development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Working towards completion of High School Diploma and little or no work-related experience.
  • Alignment with AdaptAbilities core purpose and core values.
  • Basic First Aid with CPR (can be completed in Physical Education 10) is an asset.
  • Police Information Check (PIC) and Intervention Record Check (IRC) required if 18 years of age or older.

  • Provide support for direct care and purposeful support in an engaging, fun and safe environment.
  • Foster genuine relationships promoting dignity, personal interests and identities.
  • Empower people to create meaningful days and achieve their goals.
  • Communicate effectively with their team members, which includes to individuals, families, and co-workers.
  • Build a vision of inclusion, one person at a time.
  • Model socially appropriate behaviors and assist/ encourage participants to make and maintain appropriate community connections.
  • Maintain timely, accurate and professional documents in accordance with AdaptAbilities policies and procedures.
  • Understand and comply with all emergency processes and risk management.
  • Perform other job-related activities as required.

The Position:

This is a part-time position at our St. Albert Respite Centre (#203, 7 St Anne St, St. Albert, AB T8N 2X4) for the Out of School care and High School Transition program.


The Out of School Care program is designed for children aged 12 to 17, who require a little extra support after school and are no longer able to access a daycare.


High School Transition supports individuals 18 to 20 who are continuing their high school education, by offering a safe and welcoming home away from home during after school hours. Participants will begin to explore independence through experiential learning opportunities.


The program operates Monday through Friday, from September 14, 2026, to April 23, 2027, with program hours from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on non-school days in accordance with the St. Albert Public Schools calendar ( https://www.spschools.org/download/566705)


Required Commitment :


  • 2026 - September 14, 21 and 30, October 19, November 9, 10 and 27

  • 2027 - January 29, February 4 and 5, March 5, April 5 and 23, May 3 and June 4


The Community Specialist In Training (CS-IT) will be reporting to the assigned Program Supervisor and will be provided with work experience and mentorship to develop a career in the human services field. This position will support front-line employees in creating a safe, caring and community-enriched life for the individuals/families who hire us. The conscientious CS-IT will act with integrity, be open to growth, live our purpose, cultivate teamwork, and put forth an extraordinary effort to empower people with diverse abilities and their families to grow, succeed, and belong.
