Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care program; Bachelor's preferred.
  • CRT credential required, must pursue RRT within 6 months.

Successfully functions as a Respiratory Care Practitioner as defined by the Iowa Board of Respiratory Care Practitioner Examiners of the Iowa Department of Public Health. Provides Respiratory Care for patients under the direction of a physician. Successful performance contributes to a holistic approach to the delivery of services, quality patient/family care, and a high level of satisfaction from patients and families.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates clinical competency and technical knowledge in respiratory care interventions, including ventilatory support, aerosolized medications, and protocol implementation.
  • Completes documentation promptly to ensure accurate legal records of patient care.
  • Audits patient records for accuracy and billing purposes.
  • Uses critical thinking for independent judgment, maintaining responsibility for patient conditions.
  • Adopts a holistic approach considering psychosocial, spiritual, educational, and safety aspects for patients and families.
  • Delegates tasks and provides guidance to other healthcare providers, holding them accountable.
  • Delivers high-quality care adhering to policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Strives to exceed customer expectations and improve quality and service.
  • Prioritizes patient and workplace safety by preventing errors and infections, reporting concerns immediately.
  • Collects data to ensure consistent care, regulatory compliance, and patient satisfaction.
  • Assesses patient and family needs, provides education, and makes referrals for continuity of care.
  • Documents teaching and care activities in the electronic medical record.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care program; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum experience to meet educational and credentialing requirements.
  • CRT credential and actively pursuing RRT; must obtain RRT within 6 months of hire.
  • Current Iowa licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • Current BLS certification; ACLS, PALS, or NRP within 1 year if covering critical care units.
  • Valid driver's license for work-related driving.
  • Preferred: Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS) and/or Neonatal-Pediatric Specialty (NPS) credentials.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Fluent in English; multicultural sensitivity.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Customer and patient-focused approach.
  • Critical thinking and independent judgment skills.
