Job description

Come and join our team at the Sturgeon Community Hospital! As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will be a pivotal member of the inter-professional team, working collaboratively with all disciplines. In this role, you will assess patients (clients, residents), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans, and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for direct patient care, as well as for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. Additionally, you will collaborate with clinical teams to enhance outcomes, provide training on respiratory equipment, and educate patients and families about diseases, medications, equipment, and treatments.

This position offers the opportunity to gain comprehensive experience by floating across hospital units and working both independently and within inter-professional teams. The role requires supporting respiratory therapy services across departments, working on your feet for extended periods, and assisting with patient transport, lifting, and positioning. Physical capability to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment is essential. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong leadership, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with patients, team members, and physicians.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Assessing patients and developing respiratory care plans.
  2. Monitoring patient progress and adjusting treatments accordingly.
  3. Managing diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory equipment.
  4. Collaborating with clinical teams to improve outcomes.
  5. Providing training and education to healthcare providers, patients, and families.
  6. Supporting hospital departments and floating across units as needed.
  7. Physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and transporting patients and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous arterial line insertion certification.
  • Intubation certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
