We are seeking a skilled & compassionate Registered Respiratory Therapist to join the Acute and Critical Care team at the Chinook Regional Hospital in sunny, Lethbridge, Alberta. The Chinook Regional Hospital houses a 20-bed ICU, 16-bed level 2+ NICU, 11-bed Pediatric unit, level 3 trauma center, an active OR & multiple medical and surgical inpatient units. As a Respiratory Therapist I at CRH, you will work to the full scope of practice providing respiratory care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to assist in the diagnosis and management of patients of all ages with cardiopulmonary & related disorders. You will actively participate in the education of patients, students, & colleagues; contribute to quality improvement; maintain a professional & accountable practice; advocate professionally & effectively for patients using patient & family-centered care principles & provide technical support for all Respiratory Therapy equipment. Acute care RTs at CRH are required to cover all areas that Respiratory Services supports. The current rotation includes 50% night and day shifts.

Description:

As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, residents), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans, and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist healthcare providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment, as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment, and treatments.

Qualifications:

  • Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).
  • Current Basic Life Support - Health Care Provider Certification.
  • Recent acute care and critical care experience within past 5 years.
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) Certification.
  • Ability to work an 11.08-hour days/nights rotation.
  • Ability to work in all areas of the hospital, including NICU, Pediatrics, LDR, OR, PACU, Wards, ED, Ambulatory Respiratory Therapy, and ICU.
  • A demonstrated pattern of professional development; interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills; ability to manage competing priorities, exercise independent decision-making, and effectively resolve conflict; promotion of a healthy, respectful, & safe work environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience managing Neonatal invasive and non-invasive ventilation in the past 5 years.
  • Current PALS and ACLS certifications.
  • Competency in arterial line insertion, adult intubation, and use of point of care ultrasound for line insertion.
  • Previous formal mentorship experience and completion of preceptorship training.
  • Relevant bachelor’s degree and Connect Care training and experience.
