Description

As our most acute level of care, our specialty hospitals offer the same critical care patients receive in a traditional hospital or intensive care unit, but for an extended recovery period. Our clinicians play a vital role in the recovery process for chronic, critically ill, and medically complex patients. Respiratory Care Professionals are viewed as integral members of the healthcare team.

You will set up and operate respiratory care equipment used in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disease and/or illness. You should possess knowledge of respiratory pharmacology to administer prescribed medications. You must have the skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients, ranging from adolescents to geriatrics. Provide instructions to patients when initiating new therapy/equipment and performing diagnostic procedures.

Responsibilities
  1. Conduct physician-prescribed treatments such as oxygen therapy, bronchial hygiene therapy, medicinal nebulizer therapy, ventilator care, diagnostic testing, and assessment/evaluation.
  2. Perform arterial punctures, operate blood gas analyzers, measure/determine the acid-base balance, and evaluate the efficiency of ventilation and metabolism of the respiratory system; ensure adequate ventilation during cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  3. Record treatment details and patient responses in respiratory care records and patient charts.
  4. Report necessary treatments and patient condition updates to relief personnel.
  5. Report adverse treatment/drug reactions to physicians, nurses, and pharmacy, documenting all relevant information.
  6. Perform diagnostic procedures such as 12-lead ECGs, metabolic, and pulmonary monitoring.
  7. Process respiratory therapy equipment, including cleaning, sterilizing, and packing as needed.
Qualifications

Current State Licensure as a Respiratory Therapist and current BCLS certification are required.
